CarbonFarm is creating a sustainable, profitable future for smallholder farmers

We believe in a future where one billion land stewards earn a respectable living while caring for the planet. We align the two: profitability and climate impact.

Rice sits at the centre of this. It alone accounts for 12% of anthropogenic methane emissions, corresponding to 43% of cropland emissions, and between 25% to 30% of all freshwater resources. Climate-smart irrigation practices like Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) reduce methane emissions, use less water, and promote the growth of drought-resistant plants, making rice one of the clearest opportunities for greenhouse gas mitigation.

CarbonFarm promotes these practices. We connect farmers to carbon markets and low-carbon value chains so those who reduce emissions earn a premium that rewards their efforts.

How do we measure emissions reliably across millions of fields?

CarbonFarm uses AI to monitor farming practices and quantify emissions remotely from satellite imagery. We are renowned for our technology and scientific rigour, and we are the market leader in providing transparency for those investing in rice methane mitigation.

Our impact

We work alongside local NGOs, cooperatives, and project implementers on projects involving thousands of smallholder farmers, spanning four continents.
